The five finalists of the Agro-Business Idea Competition received awards for their successful proposals

Ministry of Labour and Skills co-hosted the first National Agro-Business Ideas Competition (ABIC 2022) in partnership with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the Mastercard Foundation. The ABIC 2022 initiative implemented under the project “Enhancing the skills of youth and women in the catchments of the Integrated Agro-Industrial Parks (IAIPs) of Ethiopia” and is co-funded by the BMZ and the European Union under the ‘Ethio-German Sustainable Training and Education Programme’ (STEP)’ and the ‘Promotion of Sustainable Ethiopian Agro-Industrial Development (PROSEAD)’ program. The initiative, implemented by GIZ, aims to promote self-employment for young university graduates to solve key gaps in the agro-industrial sector in Ethiopia. State Minister of Ministry of Labour and Skills H.E. Nigusu Tilahun, give award for Five team from competent of four universities. H.E Nigussu praised the producers and coordinators for running a creative imaginary contest to alleviate farmers life. Candidates were young potential entrepreneurs trained and supported through the Business Incubation component of the project of the two hundred participants in the competition, sixty were selected for further support based on their business ideas, and 17 were selected to go into a further round of competition, leading to the group of finalists recognised for their achievements This is a collaborative initiative with the Universities of Bahirdar, Debremarkos, Adama and Hawassa.
